Sentimental Saturdays (A Life Without Internet)

What do people do without internet? No, serious. What do people do? Close your eyes for a second and imagine that life was simpler- no internet (or minimal access to it). Pretty much rewind back to when you were younger, when the world wasn’t as connected as now, and when all you probably cared about was watching TV (on the TV), Nintendo (or Playstation), or catching up with friends- face to face, rather than nowadays with facebook, skype, video-phones and iPads.

TV Thursdays: Do Family Members’ Views And Actions Dictate Outside Opinions About Us? What About Our Actions, Choices, and The Life We Lead? (One Tree Hill, Psych, Royal Pains)

One-Tree-Hill-Season-1

Numerous times in my life I catch myself thinking if the opinion people around me form about me stems from and takes root in the actions taken and decisions made by my parents. Am I reduced to the level of my parents if they make a horrible decision or can I rise above familial expectations and prove people of worthiness if there is a pressurising precedent to follow?

Sentimental Saturdays (WOW Hits CD’s/DVDs)

wow hits 2004

WOW Hits- the series released each year amongst the CCM circle since 1996 that is becoming more and more of a hot-topic and one that clearly divides avid Christian music fans (myself included) as debates about song choices and artist inclusions/exclusions reign from year to year. Regardless of my objective opinions on WOW Hits, these albums always hold dear to my heart, with the very first WOW album I listened to, WOW Hits 2004, being a catalyst in me branching out in my listening of CCM music, when I heard the compilation in 2003. Receiving this album in the mail as a competition from Word Bookstores, I would say this album is my favourite in a sentimental sense. From artists like Newsboys, ZoeGirl, Third Day, Jaci Velasquez, and Nichole Nordeman, to Avalon, Mark Schultz, FFH, MercyMe and Jeremy Camp; the 2003 edition to the ‘best songs in Christian music’ was able to show me a world of Christian music I hardly knew at that point in time. In 2006 I bought WOW Hits 2006 and WOW Hits 2005 from Koorong, and since then my love for WOW Hits hasn’t wavered.

Futuristic Fridays (The Future of Worship)

futuristic fridays- worship

I love worship music. If I analyse myself carefully, I can say that the one ‘style’- if you will- of music that I am always consistently pleased about and enjoy on a regular basis is music that is of a worshipful atmosphere. That’s not to say that CCM, pop and rock music aren’t great, but if I were to pick one music style to listen to from here on, I’d pick worship. With so many artists providing us with great songs for the church and songs for personal reflection and praise, from Chris Tomlin, Matt Redman, Crowder, All Sons and Daughters, and Gungor, to John Mark McMillan, Phil Wickham, Jesus Culture, Tim Hughes and Hillsong; worship, the genre of worship, and the whole atmosphere of worship music and the marketability of it towards younger generations, is always changing, forever reminding us of the wide variety of views and attitudes to worship music, and what it considered to be good, bad, unique or even terrible worship music to begin with.

TV Thursdays: When The World Seems Wrong, How Do We Take A Stand? (Arrow, Monk, Castle, The Mentalist)

Most of the time when I look around at my surroundings in this world we live in, I am encouraged by my time so far on earth, and blessed to be living in a place where I can have the freedoms I often take for granted- the freedom of family, friends, the ability to hope, dream and exercise religious freedom, even having a home, a roof over our heads, and the friendly neighbours whose helpfulness to us sometimes goes unthanked (unfortunately). However there are some people in this world (celebrities even!) that make choices that are unspeakable and unfathomable, and there are some things in this world that happen that are unfair as well.
