BEST OF 2018- PART 9: TOP 25 EPs OF 2018

So here we are in December- what does that mean? End of year lists, of course. Over the last few years here, around Decembertime, we as a site collate our favourite EPs, albums, songs and music videos of the year, videos and music that have impacted us throughout said particular year. And while I was intentionally meaning to have a best of Jan-June EP list and a best of July-Dec EP list, the busyness of life intervened, and thus here we are now, unveiling a best of 2018 list in terms of EPs, just one list. And so if this year was any indication, what I said at the end of 2017 of how 2017 was the year of the EP, let me just precursor this- that statement is only partly true. Because 2018 was more of an EP year than 2017 ever was. And because of this, I’ve compiled my top 25 EPs of 2018 thus far, alongside 10 honourable mentions, that have impacted my life thus far this year. And many, if not all these EPs, are emotive and powerful, some even being some of my favourites from that particular artist throughout their whole career up until now. Yes, I’m dead serious. And so without further ado, here below are 25 EPs (and 10 honourable mentions) that have shaped our own lives within the last 12 months. Let us know in the comments about your own favourite EPs. Til then, have a great week!

BEST OF 2018- PART 8: TOP 20 SONGS OF 2018 (OCTOBER – DECEMBER)

Is it December already? Seems like it. In about one and a half weeks, it’ll be Christmas time… so it’s time for a slew of ‘best of’ lists. But before we give our opinions on our favourite albums and EP’s of the year, as well as music videos for the second half of the year, it’s time for top 20 songs of the last quarter. So without further ado, here are 20 songs that are our most favourite of October-December 2018.

FLASHBACK FRIDAYS: WEEK 32 (How Can It Be by Lauren Daigle)- When Christian artists crossover, what should our response be?

A strange thing happened over this past year. Well not really strange, but something that hasn’t occurred for a very long time. A Christian artist topped the mainstream charts, in terms of album, and song, for a sustained period of time. Not that those events haven’t occurred before, but I reckon the only person that has had an impact on the charts of this magnitude would be Amy Grant way back in the 80’s and 90’s, and specifically for her song “Baby Baby” and her album Heart In Motion in 1991 (which ended that year at number 15 in the Billboard 200 charts, and at 24 in 1992). Sure there have been other artists and songs that have crossed over (dc Talk for “Jesus Freak”, Jars Of Clay for “Flood”, MercyMe for “I Can Only Imagine” and various others), not to mention Christian artists who have specifically entered into the mainstream industry to be an influence in that market (think of Skillet, Switchfoot, Needtobreathe, Relient K, and more recently Tori Kelly and for KING & COUNTRY)… yet this time around, a Christian artist has not really cared about the market, and has just written an album and a song from their own heart. The song and the album has blown up around the world, and surprisingly on mainstream- so much so that the track is present on the annual Now That’s What I Call Music (the mainstream version of WOW Hits), and that’s well deserving. By now you probably know what the song is, and the artist…but if you still are unaware, let me tell you all. It’s Lauren Daigle, and the song is called “You Say”, from her latest album Look Up Child.

What do you reckon is the most popular movie of the 2017/18 period? What movie would come to mind? Would it be the latest instalment of The Avengers (Avengers: Infinity War), or even the new movie and addition to the ever growing Marvel Cinematic Universe, Black Panther? Or maybe the highly critically acclaimed A Star is Born featuring both Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga, or even the long awaited sequel to The Incredibles, The Incredibles 2? Then when you think of movies like Crazy Rich Asians, BlacKkKlansman, Solo: A Star Wars Story, Bohemian Rhapsody, Game Night, Ready Player One, Oceans 8, Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again, and the ever nostalgic and even emotional Christopher Robin, you smile to yourself, pleased because you know that 2018 was a great year for movies. The popular movies, by far, have all been the ones where I’m sure you’ve watched and thoroughly enjoyed. But this review isn’t really about popular movies per se. it’s about a movie in particular, a movie not made in 2018, but in 2017, but, to many people’s surprise, has taken the world by storm, even more so than all these movies I’ve just listed. A movie that I’m sure everyone has seen by now (if you haven’t, then…well, just go watch it before you even continue reading this review, and then come back and you can carry on reading!), this movie that I’m about to endeavour to discuss, is one such movie that has made an impact on myself, as I’m sure everyone else who watches this.
