Let me ask you a question for a moment, a question that’s seemingly innocent yet holds more weight than you probably will realise. And that question is this. What was your favourite TV show growing up? Was it the classics of the 70’s and 80’s, like MASH, Fawlty Towers, Dallas, Bewitched, Colombo, Miami Vice, Full House and Quantam Leap? Perhaps you love sci-fi and genre shows, like LOST, Fringe, Once Upon A Time, V, Wynonna Earp, Humans, The Orville, Black Mirror, Roswell, Roswell: New Mexico, Timeless, Manifest or Killjoys? Or maybe you love the comedies… Frasier, Spin City, Samantha Who?, Two And A Half Men, How I Met Your Mother, Mike & Molly, 2 Broke Girls, The Good Place, Parks & Recreation, 30 Rock, New Girl, Brooklyn 99, Modern Family, Superstore or The Goldbergs? Or do you love superhero shows, like the Arrowverse? Whatever you prefer in terms of TV show genre, maybe there’s a show that you place above all others, one that you’d instantly watch, no matter what is going in in your life. Even if you are enduring trials and tribulations beyond what you could ever imagine, is there a TV show in your life that you’d always make time for, rain or hail or sunshine?

One of my favourite movies trilogies of all time is Back To The Future, filmed in the 1980’s and starring Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd. You can all look up the series on Wikipedia, read the plot and the synopsis of all three movies if you want to. But I suggest that for this iconic movie series, you’d have to trust me on this if you haven’t seen it and go out and buy the DVD or Blu-Ray yourself, so that you could binge what I reckon is one of the most confronting and engaging movies series of all time- even to this day. This series is one of my favourites because of its warmth, heart, comradery, and the fact that it speaks about issues still prevalent today, such as trying to be a better version of ourselves that we were before, standing up for yourself and not letting others walk all over you, and being there for each other through thick and thin just like best friends Marty McFly and Doc Brown. If you want the cliff notes version- the story is about Marty who lives in Hill Valley in 1985, who after witnessing his scientist friend be gunned down and left for dead by terrorists, inadvertently travels back to 1955 in Doc’s time travel car that he created. There he accidently prevents his parents from meeting, and hence the premise of the first film was that Marty would try to get his parents back together all the while ensuring that he could convince Doc to make revisions on the time machine and get him back to the present and back to his life in 1985.

When you’ve helped the world defeat a time demon, surely- you’re due for a rest, right? I mean, you’ve run around history trying to fix time periods and ensure that anachronisms don’t become bigger, all the while trying to locate all of the 6 totems to defeat Rip Hunter’s nemesis, so after all of that is all said and done, you must be exhausted, right? Aruba here we come, right? A relaxing holiday with nothing to do but sunbake and chill for the foreseeable future? Not quite.

If you’re a murderer or a liar or a cheater, or even if you are prideful, lustful, egocentric, narcissistic or even the littlest bit envious; then that is it for you…right? What you are is what you are for eternity, and there is no room for error, no margin for alteration, nothing in the world that can make you, or persuade you to change your behaviour, or change the reason for your behaviour. But is that really the case? Can a person who has made bad choices really change for the better? Can they be a hero to others and inspire, even when they still struggle with their demons and their better judgement? If I were to tell you that everything that I just mentioned above was wrapped up and presented to us in the form of a superhero show, what would you say? Would you laugh and think I was crazy? Probably. But that exactly is what has come to light, with the seemingly frivolous Legends Of Tomorrow being one of my favourite shows of late- a superhero show with tons of action, and a lot of issues being touched upon, including the notion of people changing for the better.

If you didn’t figure out from my top 10’s post a few weeks ago, let me spell it out for you. Once Upon a Time, a fairytale/fantasy family drama, which debuted in 2011, is one of my favourite shows on TV at the moment. And Season 4 is right around the corner (actually the premiere episode is on today, wow, time flies, doesn’t it?). I’ll be reviewing Season 4 episodes, but before I do, let me quickly recap Seasons 1-3, for those who haven’t seen the show are just want a refresher. Beware, spoilers are coming, so if you want to watch OUAT at your own pace, don’t read on.
