Everyone has most likely seen the recent Walt Disney feature film Frozen. If you haven’t, then people will look at you like you have three heads or one eye. Whether you love the film or hate it, this is a craze that won’t go away anytime soon, and is the most successful, and highest grossing Disney film ever. The story focuses on the concept of love, that it can rectify any problem, and that all we need to do is just let it go.

If you didn’t figure out from my top 10’s post a few weeks ago, let me spell it out for you. Once Upon a Time, a fairytale/fantasy family drama, which debuted in 2011, is one of my favourite shows on TV at the moment. And Season 4 is right around the corner (actually the premiere episode is on today, wow, time flies, doesn’t it?). I’ll be reviewing Season 4 episodes, but before I do, let me quickly recap Seasons 1-3, for those who haven’t seen the show are just want a refresher. Beware, spoilers are coming, so if you want to watch OUAT at your own pace, don’t read on.

Sentimental Saturdays (Ignorance of Unreliable Programming and Timeslots on Australian Television)

australian channels

Can you tell me a time when you were first introduced to television? I know my first time- it was Sesame Street in around 1991 or 1992. I then outgrew that show, transitioned into programs such as Saturday Disney (Channel 7 around the years of 1995 til about 1999), Round the Twist (on ABC- my family and I watched all four seasons in the early 2000’s), and Monk (I started watching the Channel 10 program in 2005 with season 3 repeats). As most of these shows I was first introduced to I watched on Australian TV, I’d like to briefly talk about the current reliability of the Australian TV guide, in light of the shows I am now currently watching on American TV, online because of review purposes, considering most of what I am in the middle of right now hasn’t come to Australia yet…

TNT has had hits and misses over the years. From Rizzoli and Isles, The Closer, Perception, Major Crimes and Franklin and Bash, to Men of a Certain Age, Memphis Beat, King and Maxwell and Hawthorne; one can rightfully be cautious when leaping into a new series- because frankly, would you really watch a new show if the ratings were awful? I know you’d probably say ‘It depends on how good the storyline is’, but realistically, if the ratings are low and you know the show will be cancelled, you’d probably wouldn’t watch the show, regardless of whether it is great or not. Now, in light of what I just said, let us discuss Legends, a TNT show that debuted on August 13th (a six week break between me writing reviews of this show is not a good sign…) I could offer excuses and say that I didn’t have time to write this recap/review, but in all honesty, I didn’t really feel like doing it. There I said it. As much as I enjoyed the pilot episode, Legends went downhill from there. What started out as an interesting conspiracy drama became a run of the mill procedural with an overarching theme.

forever poster

It’s been a while since my last TV Thursday post, and though my last post a few weeks ago was an introductory post about a new series- about my opinion on international shows and whether they are superior in quality to U.S. shows, I thought I would write a short special blog (combining it with Futuristic Fridays as well) as I delve into the concept of humans wanting to live forever- a theme that has been interwoven time and time again on TV, and more so this year on plenty of shows!
