TOP 10 ___: TOP TEN ARTISTS AND SONGS THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN RELEASED ON WOW HITS 2019

Welcome to the latest instalment of our Top 10 blog series. It’s been a while since we last posted Top Tens on this site (check out the last post here!)- last time, we delved into 30 inspiring collaborative multi-artist songs. This time, in light of the recent WOW Hits 2019 song reveal on Spotify and Capitol Christian Music Group (you can view the list here and here), I will unveil 10 songs from 10 artists that I think should have been in within the track list of 39, but weren’t, for one reason or another. What I will say is this- there are millions of popular radio singles and CCM songs releasing every year, and to fit them all into 39 spots is impossible. There will be songs that will miss out. Simple as that. However, these songs that I post below were, in my opinion, definite shoe-in’s for inclusion, and deserved to be present. Why they were omitted, I will probably never know.

MY IDEAL WOW HITS TRACKLISTS: POST 5- WOW HITS 2019 DVD

If you have been an avid fan of this site, you probably would have noticed that we have posted many WOW Hits predictions at strategic points during the year for a particular installment. Up until now, we’ve only done so for CD’s (we’ve done so previously for WOW Hits 2009WOW Hits 2013WOW Hits 2004 and WOW Hits 2011!), so this time I thought I would change it up and write my ‘fantasy’ list for a WOW Hits DVD.

Since 2012 there haven’t been any WOW Hits DVD’s released at all (instead there are youtube playlists)- so this ‘WOW Hits DVD’ I am writing a fantasy list for doesn’t exist at all. Not on the internet… but I guess it’s fun to think about what could have been on a WOW Hits DVD post 2012 if they did make one. Anyway, so without further ado, here’s my own list for WOW Hits 2019 DVD! Enjoy reading, and coming up with your own ‘official lists’!

FLASHBACK FRIDAYS: WEEK 21 (All Things New by Steven Curtis Chapman)- Why death can be just around the corner, and why we need to live life as if every day is our last day on earth!

Hands up how many of you have had a family member or close friend pass away suddenly or had a terminal illness or a freak accident, within your lifetime? Is that everybody? I mean, is that everybody in the whole wide world? Yep, I think I can see every single hand raised… But I mean seriously, death is something that we know is happening (though we may not know when!); and that we know for certain is around the corner, whether we like it or not. The saying goes that ‘two things are certain- death and taxes’; and society is right on that front. Because no one knows the day or the hour that each one of us leaves this earth. It may be in 80 or 90 years, or it could be, shudder to think…tomorrow. And for me personally, I have seen the effects of loved ones, friends and acquaintances, people that I know, or knew of, dying; and boy, it ain’t pretty.

MY IDEAL WOW HITS TRACKLISTS: POST 4- WOW HITS 2011

If you have been an avid fan of this site, you probably would have noticed that we have posted many WOW Hits predictions at strategic points during the year for a particular installment. But this was only for WOW Hits 2015 onwards (basically from when this site was active four years ago until now!). So it’s time to once again revisit another older WOW Hits and be nostalgic, and see if the track listing is really the ‘year’s best’ or not (as we have done previously for WOW Hits 2009WOW Hits 2013 and WOW Hits 2004!). So…you can view the official track list of WOW Hits 2011 on Wikipedia, and then my fantasy list below (which include some tracks the same as the official list, and some tracks different)! Enjoy reading, and coming up with your own ‘official lists’!

FIRST IMPRESSION REVIEW – BUILDING 429’S “LIVE THE JOURNEY”

When we’re travelling down a road for whatever reason, what do you reckon is the most important? The destination; or the journey? The end result; or the things you do and the people you meet along the way? This tension and figuring out the best way to approach the Christian life is the central theme to Building 429’s brand new album Live The Journey, which releases in about a month. And while I reckon Building 429’s smash hit “Where I Belong” as well as several other singles such as “Unashamed”, “Ocean Deep”, “Impossible”, “We Won’t Be Shaken”, “Press On”, “Listen To The Sound”, “Always”, “Fearless”, “You Carried Me” and of course their debut single “Glory Defined” form a formidable group of some of their biggest hits; I reckon so far you can group every single song from Live The Journey in that group as well. Because in my opinion- I think that Live The Journey will be the band’s most popular and impacting album they’ve ever recorded.

FIRST IMPRESSION REVIEW – BLANCA’S “SHATTERED”

Group 1 Crew has always been one of my favourite artists- though it was only when the band released their 2010 album Outta Space Love that I truly became a fan. With their music always comprising of several genres (pop, CCM, rap, hip-hop, and a combination of all of the above!), songs like “Please Don’t Let Me Go”, “Live It Up”, “Walking On The Stars”, “Need Your Love”, “Beautiful”, “Lean On Me”, “He Said” all from the trio’s third album; have reminded me of their near flawless prowess as songwriters, performers and entertainers.

WOW HITS 2019: WHAT’S YOUR PREDICTION (PART 5) (Final Predictions)

Alert, alert, alert. WOW Hits’s facebook page released the official cover of WOW Hits 2019 Deluxe Edition (as seen above), so I guess that means the official track listing is not too far away. Usually, for a album release of WOW Hits around September/October, the official track listing is around August sometime. So, not too long to go. With reference to hits and everything that has been released til now, what do I reckon should be on WOW Hits 2019? Read on to find out. Happy predicting! You can also read about our previous predictions, hereherehere and here!

FLASHBACK FRIDAYS: WEEK 20 (Various pop albums)- Why inspirational pop songs can change the world, and why we all need to hear them…now!

Over the past few Flashback Fridays posts, I’ve noticed a pattern of late- not by choice though. Most of the topics I’ve explored are heavy topics. Topics that, when push come to shove, society probably doesn’t want to talk about, and would choose not to if given the chance. The albums I have tied the topics to, while in my opinion are inspiring and influential to my life, have somewhat been overall mellow, and though it has not been my intention, sometimes I wonder when it will be that I delve into a ‘fun, bubbly, cheerful album’, regardless of what is happening in my life at the present moment. That’s not to say these past 20-odd albums that I have dived deep into since Australia Day this year (of which you can see the list here!) aren’t inspiring or life-changing, because they are, as evidenced by the high detail and vulnerability in my previous Flashback Fridays posts; but to say that I’ve only been impacted by deep, meaningful, introspective albums, is way, way off the mark.

TOP 10___: 30 inspiring collaborative multi-artist songs

The other day when I was reviewing for an album, and was wanting to quote some lyrics, it dawned on me that probably around 90% of songs that I have heard and been impacted by, are written my maybe 3 or 4 songwriters, maybe more. Does that mean something? Maybe, maybe not. Maybe songs written by just one person don’t really tug at my heart that much, or maybe I’m just not listening to those songs for whatever reason. But what also became clearer during last week, is that one of the types of songs that I immediately gravitate to are songs with guest vocalists (and in most instances, the guest vocalist is a songwriter on the particular song they are featured on as well!). A song by artist A with artist B (or artists B, C and D) singing as well. To hear multiple singers, have their own collaborative stamp on songs is intriguing, so, I guess in honour of my recent reviews of “Gotta Live” (Tedashii and Jordan Feliz) and “Legends” (LZ7 and Silento), here’s my latest top Tens post- 30 collaborative multi-artist songs that have been inspiring to me of late. Songs that tug at my soul and inspire me to live better. Check them out and let me know your favourite multi-artist song!

MY IDEAL WOW HITS TRACKLISTS: POST 3- WOW HITS 2004
