Worship Wednesdays: I’ve Got A Busted Heart

ForKingCountry_1_400_400

I’ve been listening to a lot of for King & Country lately, which is no surprise with the release of their latest single “It’s Not Over Yet” and a highly anticipated album on the way. Keep an eye out for more on that here on 365 Days of Inspiring Media.

Often times we think of worship as something that happens on Sundays in a church building. We do worship at church,  but in Matthew 6, we are called to also pray alone and give praises. God calls us into that space as a way to grow in a personal relationship with him through the growth of knowing the sacrifice and grace of His son Jesus Christ. What does this look like for you? Do you make it to a quiet space to pray to God, give him praise and thanks, ask for what you need, and confess your sins and struggles?

If I were to be 100% honest, which I am going to be – I’d have to say that it’s rare that I intentionally set aside time to be alone with God. I’m not sure why that is. Sometimes, I think that as I am “in the world” I get absorbed into work and all that life throws in the way. It’s clear that as we exist in society, with all of the business, chaos, and distraction, it’s sometimes next to impossible to stop what I’m doing and just pray.

The truth is – praying and worshipping alone with God is something that we were meant to do – More than anything else. God wants that relationship with us – he wants us right where we are at.

Today while I was working, I was listening to a streaming radio station on Spotify, based on “Whom Shall I Fear (God of Angel Armies)” by Chris Tomlin. About 3 songs in, “Busted Heart” by for King & Country started playing. I’ve heard this song countless times on Christian Radio. It’s been a favorite song of mine for a while, and I’ve never gotten tired of it. For some reason though, today, it was like I was listening to the song for the first time.

As I was listening, this amazing lyric jumped out at me:

“Hold on to me, take all of me,
Don’t let me lose my way,
Hold on to me,
Winter will come to an end,
Soon this season will end,
I’ll surrender tonight,
You’ll meet me right where I am.”

God is amazing and awesome. It always amazes me how even when we forget to pray, when we forget to set that time aside just for him, God still reaches out to us. He’s always calling us to grow in a relationship with him. I believe that I was blessed with a new perspective on “Busted Heart” to hear those words I’d never really focused on before.

I was reminded that as much as the world tells us that God’s love is unattainable,  the truth is that He is ready and willing at all times (eternally) to meet us right where we are at, no matter how long it’s been since we’ve taken time to sincerely pray. I was reminded that I am called to pray, and give praise and thanks. I felt broken.

“I’ll surrender tonight, You’ll meet me right where I am.”

Let those lyrics be your prayer today, as you set time aside to pray and worship in a quiet space. While you’re at it, you can check out for King & Country’s “Busted Heart (Hold Onto Me)” official lyrics video and share your thoughts & comments below.

  1. I love this, and the song. My Mom and I are huge for King and Country fans! Busted Heart ranks along one of my top favs.
Great post, I’m really enjoying it.
    God Bless

  2. It’s funny how I woke up singing the lyrics: Take me to the middle of Your Heart from Middle of Your Heart by FK&C this morning. I never really liked Busted Heart until I sat down quietly one day to listen to the lyrics of the song. 🙂 Nice post Matt. I like the part where you said: Often times we think of worship as something that happens on Sundays in a church building. That’s true; living our lives in obedience to God can be a form of worship too.

  3. Thanks Mercy & Luc M! Blessings to you, & thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts 🙂

  4. Love this song, and the post! It’s one of those convicting reads – as I get further into it, I’m reminded about how little I set aside that needed time. Now to get back on the right track… 🙂
