Everyone knows Shania Twain…or they should. Famous country singer-songwriter that was prevalent, prominent, and profound, especially in the 1990s, was an artist that unveiled albums throughout that time that revolutionised not only country music, but music in general. I’d say she’d have to be one of the most impactful and influential female artists within the realms of country music, maybe even rivalling Dolly Parton and Reba…then agan, isn’t her impact and influence a given anyway? Her chart-topping album Come On Over was released in 1997…way back in the day. Featuring singles like ‘From This Moment On’, ‘You’re Still The One’, ‘That Don’t Impress Me Much’, ‘Man, I Feel Like A Woman!’ and ‘I’m Holdin’ Onto Love (To Save My Life)’ (to name a few); Come On Over allowed Shania to reach the stratosphere, and as of 2023, that particular album has impacted a plethora of other artists that have come after Shania- artists like Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift, Kelsea Ballerini, Carly Pearce, even artists like Rascal Flatts and Faith Hill, who both had successful country crossover appeal, was because Shania herself paved the way beforehand with the genre-crossing album Come On Over. As of 2023, Come On Over is the highest grossing studio album by a female solo artist…ever (The Bodyguard Soundtrack by Whitney Houston, is officially classified as a soundtrack album, instead of a studio one), and that should be saying something. So, as the label (or maybe Shania herself) released Come On Over (Diamond Edition / Super Deluxe) on August 25th 2023 (standing at 3 discs- a U.S. version of the album, the international version, as well as an album full of bonus and live material hits), I was intrigued, excited and nostalgic.

Extended/remastered/reissued albums are always a mixed bag- see my stark difference in reviews of both SEAL’s SEAL and Robbie Williams’s Life Through a Lens. And so where does Shania’s Come On Over: Diamond Edition (Super Deluxe 3CD) seemingly fit? This album, because of it’s longevity and impact and influence, is still a must now as it was back then when the album was released. Released with three albums (U.S. Version of the album, International Version, as well as an album full of bonus music material) not too long ago, this ‘new’ album by Shania showcases the staying power and the timelessness of these songs and the album in general. This album defined the 1990s, and songs like ‘From This Moment On’ and ‘Man I Feel Like a Woman’ have been embedded into the fabric of global culture ever since. This is a must-buy if you’ve enjoyed Shania’s previous music, or if you just enjoy Come On Over full stop. There are no filler tracks here on this album. There are no skippable albums too. With a bunch of live and remix songs to complete disc 3, Shania’s 3 disc album reminds us all, that albums of yesteryear can still have an impact, and that Shania indeed is still very much an impactful and influential figure now, as she was way back when her career started in the early 1990s. Still making music even now (she unveiled Queen of Me in February, of which we will be reviewing soon), this album is a reminder for the history books- that timeless albums are just that- timeless. Certain albums (and artists) stand the test of time as the years roll on, and Shania and her music (especially Come On Over) is evidence of this. Well done Shania for this 3 disc album. Here’s to more anniversary re-releases, whenever they may arise.
