Track Listing:

  1. Family

Founded by Lindz West in 2005, in Manchester England, pop/dance/worship/rap group LZ7 have had an extraordinary and inspiring journey for the past ten years, with many of their smash hits rising in both the Christian and mainstream music markets (including their crossover hit “This Little Light”!). With their previous albums These Are Better DaysHomeAftershowLight and Gasoline all loved and appreciated by listeners and critics alike; it isn’t known whether LZ7 will release a new full length album anytime soon, or not, yet these brand new melodies from LZ7 inspire and provide us insight into the human condition, as the group reminds me musically to artists like TobyMac, Lecrae, Group 1 Crew and Hillsong Young & Free. Just a few weeks ago, LZ7 dropped a brand new single titled “Amazing Grace”; which is indeed a re-recording and a reimagining of…yep, you guessed it! The hymn of the same name. Yet as we’ve reviewed this single here- let’s move onto LZ7’s latest single- an original track called “Family”!

With LZ7 being an EDM band, EDM is what they do to the max on “Family”, which is different, but in a different good way. Lindz raps quite well here, and the theme of banding together during COVID-19 as friends and family, is evident in this track. I’m not really a lover of rap music (I can appreciate and respect it though!), yet there’s something very special about “Family” that actually brings the family closer together!

Still considered to be new and upcoming to the CCM/worship/pop music scene, LZ7 have created an exquisite single that keeps me dancing long after the music stops. With “Family” definitely having the potential to cross country borders- not to mention maybe expand their popularity to other parts of the world where these guys may not have been heard of before, LZ7’s ability to deliver pop, rap, EDM and ballads is a great skill that will only continue to lead them to newer heights in the future. With a new album in the works for release sometime soon (maybe 2020 or early 2021!), fans of Toby, Group 1 Crew, Press Play, Matt Redman or Capital Kings are sure to enjoy this new single. Well done guys, I hope and pray that 2020 and 2021 are some of your best years ever!
