Kari Jobe has been in and around the music industry for quite some time and has been one of the go-to artists for great worship hits for a similar time as well. From hits like ‘Revelation Song’, ‘I’m Singing’, ‘You are For Me’ and ‘We Are’, to ‘Steady My Heart’, ‘Forever’, ‘I Am Not Alone’ and more recently songs like ‘Let Your Glory Fall’ and ‘Heal This Land’, to name a few; Kari’s been making worship songs for years that have made their homes in churches around the world, in Sunday morning set lists in various countries around the globe as we worship alongside to these songs from one of today’s most gifted worship leaders of a generation. Now enter into 2020, with another offering by Kari, a follow-up if you will from the highly successful duet ‘Cover the Earth’, featuring her husband, Cody Carnes.

‘The Blessing’ was written by Kari, her husband Cody, as well as the team at Elevation Worship as well as their pastor Steven Furtick- ‘The Blessing’ has become one of the fastest viral worship songs of 2020 thus far, and alongside melodies like ‘Another in the Fire’ and ‘WayMaker’, are the cornerstones of worship melodies in 2020 thus far. The song itself is a like a scripture-in-song melody- music put to words straight from Scripture- Numbers 6:24-26 to be precise. The song is a declaration of hope during such a difficult time as this- Kari and Cody perfectly blend their voices in this song, one that has taken off globally, with its popularity unparalleled (perhaps still second to ‘Way Maker’) in 2020 so far. The message? A declaration of God’s blessing upon us, even when it may look like there is none because of this pandemic and virus situation. Nevertheless, ‘The Blessing’ has been a great hit commercially and in homes too, as this track is reminder of how simple lyrics and a heart for worship may be all that you need to impact the world in a time like today. A song that’ll continue to be on repeat for a while yet, ‘The Blessing’ (the original song, as well as the cinematic version, and three alternate versions of the Radio Edition, which make up this EP!) is one of my favourite worship songs of 2020, and a track that I’m sure will bring Kari’s music once again into the spotlight as a followup is certain to be unveiled soon, after 2017’s The Garden. Well done Kari, Cody and everyone else at Elevation Worship for this compelling and powerful song, looking forward to a new set of melodies from Kari in the future, whenever that may be.
