It’s been a while since I reviewed an album. Actually, it’s been a while since I reviewed anything. Just under a year to be precise. And it’s because of a myriad of things. Jon and I have been busy with our café, and energy levels this year haven’t been that high. And ever since the news about Michael Tait surfaced last year, motivation for reviewing became non-existent. I mean… what was the point when someone could project themselves to be this charismatic and jovial person when the opposite might be true in some cases? How could I have faith in people anymore when someone has let us all down, and in a mighty big way? Well… I guess you just push on, and write about the albums that move you, regardless of the motivations of the artist in question.
Which brings me to right now. I think it’s time to restart reviewing again. And maybe later on this year dip our toes back into other forms of writing on this site (like this, this, and this). Baby steps, am I right? New music is always out constantly, so what better way to speak about my views on albums than to write it down and publish it? And so here we are. The debut project from House Of Worship released last month; and one glance down the track list reveals a stack full of worshipful songs from the 90’s and 2000’s- full of nostalgia and sentimentality. Sure, I love a song like “What A Beautiful Name”, “Oceans”, “No Longer Slaves”, “Hosanna” and “Revelation Song”; but other songs are just timeless. And these 13 stand the test of time. There’s only one rating this deserves… and it’s not zero!
The concept of this project is quite remarkable. Get together 25-odd up and coming and established worship leaders and artists. And have the original artist and a ‘new’ artist sing a duet on a much loved worship song. The result? Nothing short of magnificent! Hillary Scott joins Matt Redman on his smash hit “The Heart Of Worship” while Martin Smith enlists Josh Baldwin for Delirious?’s track “I Could Sing Of Your Love Forever”. Naomi Raine adds incredible depth to Israel Houghton’s “Jesus At The Center” while Cody Carnes and Tim Hughes brilliantly reimagine “Here I Am To Worship”. CeCe Winans and Darlene Zschech on a track together (“Shout To The Lord”) is a dream come true as a lover of worshipful 90’s music; while the albums closes with the iconic “Agnus Dei”, sung beautifully by Michael W. Smith and Chris Brown of Elevation Worship.
I could go on and on about this superb record. I won’t though. I’ll let the Holy Spirit speak and the artists themselves as well. There may or may not be a sequel album coming in the future (with other hit songs and other worship artists); but regardless, this album is a must buy. Nothing much to it, just listen and be amazed! Well done each and every one of these anointed and extremely talented artists. If this is the quality of the first album from 2026 that I review… then we’re in for a very good year indeed!
