Hayley Orrantia– Gasoline (Single) (Amazon mp3/iTunes)
Track Listing:
- Gasoline
Hayley Orrantia, like Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, Hailee Steinfeld, Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, and Jennifer Lopez before her; is a singer/songwriter and an actor. These days, people like to have more than one skill in their repertoire; and acting and singing in Hollywood is pretty commonplace. You may have heard of Hayley in the TV show The Goldbergs. But what you may not know, is that Hayley is an accomplished singer- and you may not know this because throughout her career, she hasn’t released a full-length album, and she’s only released a smattering of singles over the years. Originally starting off as a country singer, Hayley has firmly expanded her palate to pop music over the past few years, and though I’ve only fully heard “Silence You” as a song from Hayley (from the God’s Not Dead 2 end credits), and some other songs as background music; Hayley is back with “Gasoline” this past week… and I thought I better voice my thoughts on someone who will undoubtedly be in the industry for a very long time.
A pop song at its core, “Gasoline” is a fine effort from Hayley, considering she is an independent artist. Sonically, this song is up there with most mainstream pop songs this year, and with the subject matter of this melody being about two people caught in a toxic and unhealthy relationship (and both parties stuck in that destructive cyclical pattern of wanting to get out but still wanting comfort and familiarity); we are all encouraged through this track to stop and check our own motivations in our relationships, to see if they’re pure or not. As a rising star, Hayley Orrantia, though she has been in the spotlight for a while, seems to be peaking around about now. And with this song, hopefully listeners can hear her now and notice her as an artist. Who knows, perhaps Hayley will release a debut album sometime soon. But regardless of what happens in the future; this song shows us that she is talented, and that’s all that matters. Well done Hayley for a catchy yet thought-provoking melody; I can’t wait to hear what’s next in store for you!
