MESSAGE MONDAYS – THINK ON THESE THINGS

PHilippians4-8

One of my favorite verses in the entire Bible is Phillipians 4:8. In such an amazing book of Scripture, this verse sticks out to me because of its simplicity and application in my life. The verse in question states:

Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.

The name of this site is 365 Days of Inspiring Media. This verse describes perfectly what I believe we are about. In a world where nothing seems to shock us anymore, where we’ve become numb to a lot of things around us, God reminds us to constantly dwell on Him. There are a lot of things that fight for our attention. It might be easy to watch a certain movie because that’s all your friends are talking about, or to play a video game because it’s popular at the moment, but we need to remember that our minds are precious. It’s important to dwell on whatever is true, honorable and holy. If we let filth get in, it is hard to get back out.

Thank God for uplifting entertainment. It’s a gift to be able to listen to an album without having to worry about what you’re putting in your ears, or to be able to watch a TV show without having to cover your younger brother’s eyes. With all kinds of external stimulation and temptation around us, this is easier said than done, but remember, God is with us. As long as we keep our mind focused on Him, darkness can’t get in.
