London Gatch– You Never Walk Away (Single) (Amazon mp3/iTunes)

Track Listing:

  1. You Never Walk Away

Among its roster of familiar and more accomplished veterans like Kutless, 7eventh Time Down, Disciple, David Dunn and Ashes Remain; we are now blessed to hear a new addition to BEC Recordings. Formerly one of the worship leaders of Elevation Worship, worship artist London Gatch has active plans to unveil her debut solo album this year, and recently she dropped her debut single on BEC Recordings, titled “Jesus Only You”. You can read our review of the single here…and now that you have, let’s dive into London’s second single “You Never Walk Away”. With the debut single being more worshipful (standing tall at around 5 minutes), the second single is more radio friendly and pop, with the length at a bite-size and accessible 3 and a half minutes. With vocals similar to Laura Story and Jesus Culture’s Kim Walker-Smith; London’s efforts here are also nothing short of phenomenal, as we hear stirring and heartfelt keys, and London earnest conveying that Jesus Christ will never walk away from us, that He will always stay close to us, no matter what we are going through. As a song, though “You Never Walk Away” is shorter in duration. it’s still thoroughly enjoyable to listen to, maybe even more so than “Jesus Only You”; and London’s vocals are simply put, something that needs to be heard to be believed- she is as passionate and as emotional as any other female worship vocalist out there, and it shows on one of the strongest worship songs of 2018.

As a worship song, London’s melody is pretty much run of the mill- but I don’t think that’s what the niche market of this track is- because as an inspirational pop song, “You Never Walk Away” is brilliant. With a thoroughly engaging guitar hook and explosive vocals that give the track added depth, it is the ever-true lyrics that shine through and alone give me reason to say this is one of my favourite songs of the year period. As London ardently passionately cries out that ‘…I know You will defend me, I know You’re fighting for me, I stand upon Your promise, on every word of Your lasting love, my God, You will deliver. my God, almighty Healer…’; we are immersed in a track I can only describe as magical, as is the same with “Jesus Only You”. As London continues to exude and display confidence, and delivers a performance full of honesty, and unbridled passion for our Lord and Saviour, I am sure that this new journey for London as a solo artist will be a fruitful one, as she glorifies Jesus in everything she does.

As the same with Mack Brock earlier in the year, who also left Elevation Worship to pursue a solo career; London Gatch has followed suit, and she has delivered a near-flawless pair of singles in “Jesus Only You” and “You Never Walk Away”, both well worthy of multiple listens in my opinion. While we won’t know until maybe a few months’ time when London’s album is releasing, this song will definitely be on repeat until then, and should be on each of your playlists on spotify and iTunes as well! What more can I say about London’s sheer brilliant melody that deserves maybe a WOW Worship inclusion whenever one releases next? Not much more, except…go buy the track, or source it however you want to. Just listen and be amazed.
