If any of you listeners are fans of worship music, or have been following this site for a while, you would know about Jon’s and my soft spot for CCM and worship music from our childhood. Artists like Steven Curtis Chapman, Newsboys, Rebecca St. James, Michael W. Smith, Third Day, Chris Tomlin, Crowder, MercyMe, Casting Crowns, Phil Wickham, Jeremy Camp, Switchfoot, Skillet, Needtobreathe, Natalie Grant, Nichole Nordeman, Amy Grant, Delirious?, for King & Country, Tim Hughes, Matt Redman, Lauren Daigle, Britt Nicole, Meredith Andrews, Kari Jobe and Tenth Avenue North; have all resonated with me throughout the years, especially my teenage years, and each have grounded me and strengthened my in my faith. Worship music, especially, rings true, and this next album I’m briefly going to touch upon, is a must for all worship lovers.
I’m sure you all know Hillsong, in all its facets. If not, where have you been? On a serious note, the Aussie global mega church has been influential in their craft (music and preaching) for the better part of 30-odd years, and they’re still going strong. I’m not sure when they’ll ‘retire’ (they probably won’t, just have revolving worship leaders go through!), but if you haven’t listened to any Hillsong material, or maybe you just want to dive back into their stuff (but without the sting and hurt of the church and their scandals, which might be attached to some of the songs from the band recordings)… then this release Testament from founding Hillsong member Darlene Zschech is THE album to check out.
Standing tall at 30 tracks, there’s something for everyone in this project. With re-recorded fan favourites and new offerings as well, this ‘greatest hits’ project shines and is one of my favourite worship albums of late. This album is a must if you’re a 90’s and 2000’s kid or grew up on worship music. These songs never get old, and as Darlene praises Jesus for who He is; let us marvel at the staying power of these age-old and timeless worship classics. Testament truly is a testament to God’s goodness and faithfulness- there’s no question about it. Buy this album. Nothing more to say. Well done Darlene for this powerful masterpiece!
