The Corrs have been part of 1990s and 2000s history, and if you were to ask anyone who’s been a fan of music, period; who would be one of the artists to have shaped music in both the 90s and the 2000s, I’m sure people would say ‘The Corrs’ without any question or hesitation. These 4 siblings from Ireland have carved out a career spanning years and years, of hits and albums and songs that other artists could only dream of. Sure, these siblings took a hiatus between 2005 and 2015 (and yet another hiatus between 2017 – present); but what Andrea, Jim, Sharon and Caroline Corr have delivered to us over the years, is great, accessible and enjoyable pop-rock music that reminds us all of the fact that Ireland music ought not to be underrated and underappreciated as it is, so often. Other than U2 (and also possibly The Corrs and The Cranberries), I dunno if the general populous in the Western world could name another Irish group, and that is sad indeed (Boyzone, Westlife, Celtic Woman, Snow Patrol, The Script, B*Witched and Bellafire, anyone?). Nevertheless, this is a group that have evoked a lot of nostalgia, and fond memories of my own childhood and teenage years, and now in 2023, The Corrs are releasing something…different? New? A re-release? All of the above? Tomorrow, get ready for Best of the Corrs, essentially a re-release of their 2001 best-of compilation album, complete with three re-recordings of Fleetwood Mac classics- ‘Little Lies’, ‘Songbird’ and ‘Everywhere’.

This album ‘review’ ought not to be long at all, except to say, that if you’re a fan of Irish music, then this album is for you. If you’re a fan of The Corrs, like me, then this album is most definitely for you. If you’re a fan of 1990s and 2000s music, then this album will bring you back, to your childhood, to a time where life was much simpler and less complicated than it is right now. The Corrs as a band, is a reminder of music back in the day, when it wasn’t littered with autotune nor was it created using synths and electronic means as it is right now. During a time without social media, when anticipation of music and albums was much more real and authentic, compared to now where music is at the click of a buttion via Spotify. Nothing against the music culture of today, it’s just that a band like The Corrs is a reminder of a generation in the past that many people of now want to travel back towards, because maybe, just maybe, they’re unimpressed with the consumeristic culture of modern music where it currently stands. And with the release of Best of The Corrs tomorrow, maybe, listeners of 1990s and 2000s music can also be reminded, that music of that era, can still evoke emotion and heart all those years later, that songs back then can still have an impact even now. Well done to Andrea and co. for this re-release. Looking forward to hearing both ‘Everywhere’ and ‘Songbird’ in full, come tomorrow afternoon.
