Another month gone by, another single from Caitie Hurst! After Caitie unveiled both “How Could I Be Silent” and “Nothing To Hide” previously this year; just this past week, the third official song released. “Answers” is the latest track from Caitie, and though it isn’t known whether she will go the route of JJ Heller or not (release a song every month for the foreseeable future!), this piano led reflective ballad is sure to inspire and encourage, as we are blessed to hear one of the year’s most honest and vulnerable songs ever.
If you’re not familiar with Caitie, then let me tell you; that Caitie Hurst is one of the latest artists to sign to Centricity Music. As she joins the home of seasoned veterans such as Jason Gray, Andrew Peterson, Jonny Diaz and Aaron Shust, fan favourites such as Lauren Daigle and Jordan Feliz; as well as up and coming artists such as For All Seasons, North Point Inside Out, JJ Weeks Band and Carrollton; I reckon Caitie has shown an ever-growing roster that comprises some of the most underrated artists in the CCM industry. With the theme of this new song being questioning God, and asking Him for answers when we have loads of questions, and things we do not understand, this confronting melody may be uncomfortable to listen to, however I reckon this song is needed immensely in a world that shuns God more often that thanks and praises Him.
Driven by captivating keys and an eloquent, engaging voice, Caitie invites us to partake in her personal journey as she questions God, asking Him ‘…what about all the orphans praying for a home? I know You’re the good, good Father, but why are they alone? I want the answers…’, and then proceeds to let us know that though God sometimes may not provide us with the answers that we seek, in the timing that we may want Him to; He is still God, and sometimes He allows us to not have answers right now in order for us to trust Him with the bigger picture, and trust Him with our lives. And as we surrender control and let Him lead, it is guaranteed that we will become better people and we will grow in our character as a result. Sure to be a launching pad for discussion on all manner of theological topics and questions, “Answers” is a song destined to be talked about more and more in the coming months, and is a song that Caitie is to be proud of, for being bold enough to write and sing about!
As far as follow-up radio singles go, Caitie Hurst’s “Answers” is near-flawless- it’s heartfelt, relevant, inspiring, personal and life-changing, as we remember that Jesus is the One whom we should trust with our questions, and trust that when we receive the answers, it will be in His timing. With this song as well as the previous two singles already gaining significant buzz from critics and listeners alike; how much more will we all be excited in August when Caitie releases her debut EP? With all of these songs being thoroughly compelling, moving and poignant, I reckon Caitie will have a bright future in the coming years for sure. Caitie’s journey as a music artist is just beginning, and I for one am eager to see how she progresses over the upcoming years. Well done Caitie for giving us great song to listen to, ponder over and dwell upon; can’t wait for your EP to release in August!
