Over the past few years, Building 429 has been one of my favourite bands- with their smash hits such as “Glory Defined”, “Always”, “Where I Belong”, “End Of Me”, “Fearless”, “You Can”, “This Place”, “We Won’t Be Shaken”, “Listen To The Sound”, “Press On”, “Impossible”, “Unashamed” and I Believe” to name a few, having ministered to myself and others throughout the years. Providing us with hopeful and uplifting lyrics about how we as Christians can walk through life with our faith intact at the end of the road; Building 429 have stepped off their label late last year, and are now classified as an independent band. Their first release under their newly formed label was “Fear No More” in April, and now just this past week, the group unveiled their new EP, titled…yep, you guessed it- Fear No More!
Comprising of the original recording of “Fear No More” as well as 4 other re-recordings (Ballad Version, Dance Remix, Spanish Version and Live Version), plus a brand new song “Blessing I Can’t See” (also featuring the vocals of Brooke DeLeary of LoveCollide), we are introduced to an EP that by all accounts and purposes should be ‘boring’ and ‘outdated’. For some reason, this release in my opinion is none of these things. And while I could speak about “Fear No More” for a long time (as it is indeed one of my favourite songs of the year thus far!), I not going to- and instead I’ll link you to Jon’s review of the single, as he says his thoughts of “Fear No More” so much better than myself (and thoughts which are actually similar to myself in terms of this song!). As far as the four versions of the single go, these renditions are all unique and enjoyable, but I found myself resonating with the Ballad version and the Spanish version the most. Not to say that the other two are invalid, and you guys may love these versions, which is cool; but there’s something about “Fear No More (Spanish)” and “Fear No More (Ballad Version)” that really speaks to my soul!
With “Blessing I Can’t See” being a poppy mid-tempo ballad where lead singer Jason Roy and guest vocalist Brooke DeLeary passionately sing in perfect harmony, vibrantly relaying that even the adversities and trials in our lives can in fact be used by God to turn into blessings (that we will see in time, but may not yet!); we are reminded in this song as well as others in the band’s career, to never fear, because God is with us. And as we take stock of our lives, asking ourselves if we’re being real with those around us, or if we’re just living from day to day and putting up a front for others to see; let us be encouraged by these songs and these versions, to be confident in our faith and confident in the way we live our life, knowing that He has the whole world in His hands. So what are you waiting for? Press play on Spotify (or your choice of streaming device!) and fear no more! Well done Jason, Michael, Aaron, and Jesse; I can’t wait to see you blossom in this new chapter of being an independent band!
