TNT has had hits and misses over the years. From Rizzoli and Isles, The Closer, Perception, Major Crimes and Franklin and Bash, to Men of a Certain Age, Memphis Beat, King and Maxwell and Hawthorne; one can rightfully be cautious when leaping into a new series- because frankly, would you really watch a new show if the ratings were awful? I know you’d probably say ‘It depends on how good the storyline is’, but realistically, if the ratings are low and you know the show will be cancelled, you’d probably wouldn’t watch the show, regardless of whether it is great or not. Now, in light of what I just said, let us discuss Legends, a TNT show that debuted on August 13th (a six week break between me writing reviews of this show is not a good sign…) I could offer excuses and say that I didn’t have time to write this recap/review, but in all honesty, I didn’t really feel like doing it. There I said it. As much as I enjoyed the pilot episode, Legends went downhill from there. What started out as an interesting conspiracy drama became a run of the mill procedural with an overarching theme.

The wait is officially over. If you’re a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe like me; then you are well aware that Agents Of SHIELD premiered its second season this week. If you have read my recap on Agents Of SHIELD Season 1 and are still unsure and hence wondering when the new season starts, let me say that the first episode of Season 2 (“Shadows”) premiered this past Tuesday at 9p. Let me tell you it was a total game changer, setting events in motion til at leat the mid season finale, and there’s plenty of parallel storylines to talk about and analyse.

So here we are. At the end of the freshman run of a show struggling for ratings, and a show that might not be renewed. USA Network’s Rush ended its first season today (although I was quite sure that there were 12 episodes this season, not ten), and it ends the season quite dramatically. Many of the things that were certain now aren’t, and I have to say, the show surprised me in the end in a very good way, so much so that I would be disappointed if the show was cancelled, though a few episodes ago I probably wouldn’t have cared.

The 2014/2015 fall season is upon us. The Mysteries of Laura and Red Band Society premiered yesterday, and new seasons of New Girl and The Mindy Project started off the day before. From now until the middle of November when State Of Affairs drops, approximately more than 50 shows will premiere (new seasons as well as established shows).

If you don’t know by now, let me say that I prefer cable series to broadcast shows. No it’s not only because of the shortened seasons, and the fact that there are less ‘filler’ episodes – but rather because of the quick pace of the story, and the fact that a lot can change within a few episodes.

Shall I be the first person to say that cliffhanger endings are especially the worst- especially if Finding Carter wasn’t renewed? Even though it was (the ending didn’t really matter- the show is back next year), the ending of episode 12, the season 1 finale, would probably have been one of the worst series endings ever (that’s if the show was cancelled). Frankly, even as a season finale, the last episode wasn’t really that great. Nevertheless, despite my reservations after One Hour Photo (the episode title should’ve given away to us what the plotline of the last episode was about), Finding Carter is still a great show. With an ending like what I’m sure everyone has seen- if they’re reading this review- then season 2 will be all the more great to be excited about.

It’s been over a week since the 10th episode of Finding Carter, but here I am again, writing my review of episodes 7-10. One of my favourite new shows of 2014 so far (I can’t say it enough, if the show continues with the calibre that it is showcasing, it could be the new One Tree Hill, provided the actors are on board and committed, and the show survive that long), Finding Carter’s use of a poignant, emotive and sensitive subject and its ability to turn around a topic so mellow and bring about a story so intriguing, interesting and with such a depth to both its characters and its plotline is nothing short of something extraordinary.

With ratings being ever so low (hovering at around 1.6 million viewers, as opposed to the usual 3-4 million for a USA show- and that would be for a show that is more than 1 season!), it seems like the experiment that is Rush on USA Network may be over after it’s freshman run of 12 episodes. But that doesn’t mean I’m giving up, and regardless if the show is cancelled after season 1 or not, I still commend and applaud the channel for taking some risks in trying to change up the genres of their shows, just to try to gain more viewers, and restore the network to the glory days in terms of cable ratings. So if you were a new viewer, would I encourage you to watch Rush, the show that deals with an egocentric concierge doctor for the rich and famous, who treats clients who are discreet? Or is this show a bypass? I would encourage you actually (the show takes a few episodes to find its feet), as Rush (Tom Ellis) is a very interesting person, it’s as simple as that.

Gee, how long has it been? A month and a half? Very long, considering that a review of these four episodes would’ve been timely a few weeks ago instead of it being currently written now. Nevertheless, here we are again, to discuss the new Lifetime show The Lottery. To be honest I hadn’t felt that inspired or even motivated to continue the series after the second episode- not that there was anything wrong with episodes 1 and 2 per se, but rather there were much more intriguing new series that had my attention- Legends, Extant, Finding Carter, Matador and the new USA Network show Rush. Despite my lateness in reviewing The Lottery, what I must say is this- the show has been increasingly enjoyable with every episode, and should be given another chance if viewers started to tune out (yes, could me as one of the viewers that sadly felt that this show wasn’t a priority for myself to be up to date with each week).

What is one of the first things that most of us do when we wake up? I mean seriously… When all is said and done, when we open our eyes after 7-8 hours of sleep, many of us have a shower, eat breakfast, converse and interact with our family, but after that what is the thing that we turn to? That’s right, we turn to social media.
