Top 10 ___: Top Ten High Calorie And High Sugar Foods To Enjoy!

Welcome to the latest instalment of our most recent blog series Top Tens, which is posting roughly every Sunday, Australian time (today we are posting it early on Monday). Last week we talked about the top ten things to do at the beach. This week we are going to be talking about the top 10 most enjoyable high calorie and/or high sugar foods.

In any country, fast food is becoming more and more popular, so without further ado… (and this is in any order, not reverse chronological or from best thing to worst thing or anything like that!), let’s dive into see what I like to eat when I’m not thinking about whether eating something piles on my weight or not!

Note: While these foods taste great, I am not encouraging you all to eat them all 24/7. It isn’t healthy for you. Rather, eating these foods sparingly or in moderation will be fine.

Meat pies

meat pie

An Aussie’s comfort food, this pastry themed dish contains minced meat, onions, mushrooms, and other savoury ingredients. Although usually the meat pies most people eat are from the supermarket (such as Four N Twenty) and these types of pies contain a few pieces of genuine meat, with loads of sauce. It’s yummy, have you all tried this famous fish?

Sausage rolls

Similar to the meat pie in that there are similar ingredients, the only difference is that it is tubular and the meat is processed a bit more.

Burgers, chips

burger and chips

Be it Hungry Jacks, Oportos, KFC, McDonalds…the list goes on. Burgers are commonplace in fast food restaurants, with beef, chicken and fish being the main variations. You can add anything to a burger, and make it as healthy as you can. But generally the types in the places we all visit have the meat battered; and most people also choose the option of upsizing the burger to large, and also buying hand cut chips and soft drinks as well.

Lasagne

lasagne

One of the oldest types of pasta, this baked dish consists of layers of pasta sheets, meat and sauce, topped with cheese. Though yummy, this food does contain a fair amount of calories though.

Moussaka

moussaka

Similar to lasagne, the main difference is that the dish is eggplant and potato based. Popular in Greece and other parts of Europe, I thoroughly enjoy this more so than lasagne, as this variation is slightly more exotic and different ingredient-wise.

Kettle chips

kettle chips

A type of potato chip, which is thinly sliced, and deep fried or baked in oil until crunchy; this type of chip is fried with sunflower oil, and is available in many different flavours. It is my favourite type of potato chip by a mile!

Marzipan

marzipan

A German delicacy, this food consists of a block of sugar and almond meal compressed and usually coated with chocolate. It’s one of my favourite desserts, although it may take a while for someone to truly enjoy the taste, as it’s much acquired.

Muffin Bars

muffin bars

A snack that you can eat on the go, the bite size food is exactly like it sounds- a bar of cookie or cake consistency goodness, that some people eat for breakfast (although I wouldn’t recommend eating this in place of breakfast though!)

Yum cha

yum cha

Not really a dish per se, this traditional Chinese cuisine is something that I have eaten around 6 times a year. Literally translated to ‘drink tea’, this experience is when trolleys of dumplings, dim sum, yam cakes, and other exotic and signature Chinese dishes come to your table and you order them in that way. These dishes can be fried or steamed, and the rolls and dumplings can contain a myriad of foods, ranging from beef, chicken, pork, prawns or vegetables. Usually consisting of 4 pieces ion every serve, this unique experience is topped off with Chinese tea, complementary chilli sauce and Chinese desserts if you want to order them.

Barbecue

Ok, so I had to include this one- while not exactly a junk food, the popular past time of Aussies contains sausages, all kinds of vegetables, as well as steak, maybe kebab skewers, and prawns. There are plenty of variations of the barbecue, so which one do you partake in? It’s all yummy, and all together, the BBQ does contain fats and oils, depending on what you cook the food in. yet with a BBQ is indeed exercise and sports, so this event isn’t that high calorie or high sugar-ish as I make it out to be. Still makes this list though.

So there are my top ten enjoyable high calorie and high sugar foods, what are yours? Let me know so that we can compare and have a ‘healthy’ discussion (no pun intended!)…

  1. Haha, that was a really enjoyable list (like all the others)! I’m in for the “healthy” discussion 🙂 My favourites on the list are pies, sausage rolls, chips, lasagne, burgers, and BBQs. I’ve never actually heard of marzipan, but it looks interesting 🙂 I would have personally added Pizza, that’s my number one, chocolate, my mother’s number one, and of course, Fudge!
    God Bless!

    1. Thanks for commenting Luc, it’s appreciated. Glad you like this post! Yum cha is the best, I suggest you go and try if you haven’t had the chance.

Oops, forgot about pizza. But…on second thought…I don’t think that’s in my top ten though…

      God bless! 🙂
